The Dunker Spreadsheet - Additional Info
Why?
The Dunker Spreadsheet started as a project of mine that I originally made just for fun. I had a private version of the spreadsheet where I manually sifted through the social media of every dunker I could think of and input their data myself. I have a degree in Sustainable Materials & Technology and LOVE to sift through data / find trends, so the two interests just ended up combining and led us to where we are today!
How does it work?
As you may have already seen, the Dunker Spreadsheet relies on user-submitted data as its primary resource. The Google form automatically feeds information into the spreadsheet, where I manually convert responses into integers and add them to the charts. As you can assume, user-submitted data may not always be the most reliable, as I am relying on the trust of the community to not lie about their numbers (that would be cringe). But for a side passion project that will not be used in any published research (at least for now), I do not mind taking this risk. Also, if you know the dunker, it's kind of easy to tell if they're lying.
The Future
To be completely honest, my only goal with the spreadsheet is to grow it and get as much data as possible. It gives smaller creators a chance to show their stuff and allows athletes to compare and compete against each other more directly. I would also like it to show athletes common trends that they can use to help structure their training. The bigger the spreadsheet gets, the better it accomplishes these goals. I will continue to manually update it for the foreseeable future, and I hope that if you are a dunker, you fill out the survey!
